Man dead, woman wounded in Duarte-area double shooting
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Monday continued to investigate a double shooting that left one man dead and a woman wounded in unincorporated Monrovia near Duarte.
------------
FOR THE RECORD:
October 26, 2:48 p.m. The sheriff’s department incorrectly stated the location of Sunday’s shooting as Duarte. It occurred in unincorporated Monrovia.
------------
The attack in the San Gabriel Valley city occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday near Shrode and Lincoln avenues, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the sheriff’s department.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshots to the torso, officials said. The woman was wounded in the leg and taken to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting. The county coroner said the man’s identity would be released pending notification of next of kin.
If ruled by investigators as a murder, the Sunday evening shooting would mark the first homicide to occur in Duarte since 2013, according to The Times’ Homicide Report database.
Since January 2000, Duarte has been the 192nd most deadly neighborhood out of L.A. County’s 270 neighborhoods, according to a Times analysis of homicide data for that period.
