Toddler dies after being crushed by makeshift wooden play structure
A 2-year-old boy has died this week after a makeshift wooden play structure collapsed and crushed him, authorities said.
The boy, who has not been identified, was playing on the wooden structure in his front yard Wednesday when it collapsed and pinned him, said Ray Pruitt, spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
“When it collapsed, people heard it because it was so loud,” he said.
The boy’s mother ran over to the boy and plucked him out from the wood pile, Pruitt said.
Deputies arrived at the home in the 7100 block of Athel Avenue in Inyokern and found paramedics performing CPR on the child.
He was taken to an area hospital and then airlifted to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives were investigating to determine whether there were any signs of negligence or child endangerment, Pruitt said.
