Jose Medina-Razo heard the sound of his car’s engine starting Thursday in the predawn darkness.

As he ran out of his girlfriend’s home in Loma Linda, the teenager saw his white 1994 Acura Integra being driven away, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

Medina-Razo, 19, and his girlfriend jumped into her light-blue 2006 Honda Pilot and took off after the stolen Integra.

The man driving the stolen Integra lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the freeway overpass embankment as the two cars approached the intersection of Mountain View Avenue and the 10 Freeway, authorities said.

The driver of the Integra was ejected from the car and died at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
