A bystander was struck and killed by a stray bullet fired by a gang member at a rival gang Tuesday night in Canoga Park, police said.

“It’s a tragedy,” L.A. police Officer Jack Richter said. “It can be any one of us or your family.”
Detectives believe a car carrying gang members was driving north in the 7200 block of Easton Avenue at about 5:50 p.m. when they opened fired on another group driving in front of them.
A stray bullet struck the man, police said.
When officers arrived, they found the man dead. He has not been publicly identified, but police said he was in his 30s.
His death marks the first homicide in Canoga Park in the last 12 months, according to The Times Homicide Report.
Anyone with details about the shooting is urged to call LAPD Det. Dave Peteque at (818) 756-4869.
