Brush fire at Camp Pendleton now 93% contained; no cause determined
The brush fire at Camp Pendleton that broke out Saturday afternoon is now 93% contained after burning 2,236 acres, Marine officials said Tuesday night.
No cause has been determined but artillery fire has been ruled out, officials said.
No training was underway at the fire’s origin when the blaze was spotted about 12:35 p.m. Saturday.
No injuries have been reported. Four modular temporary buildings were damaged and three vehicles were burned.
Some 230 residents from the O’Neill Heights housing area were evacuated Saturday night but allowed to return Sunday night. Patients from the base hospital were transferred to facilities off-base.
On Tuesday, 195 firefighters were battling the blaze.
