Fire burns 1,500 acres in remote northeast San Diego County
SAN DIEGO -- A brush fire in northeast San Diego County has burned more than 1,500 acres and is now 60% contained, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Friday morning.
The San Felipe fire is burning in a largely unpopulated desert area north of California 79 and east of Julian. No structures are threatened and only one minor injury, to a firefighter, has been reported, Cal Fire said.
The fire began as a managed burn Thursday but got out of control due to a wind shift. The fire is being fought by 644 personnel and 65 engines, officials said.
