Bouncer charged with murder after punch sends man into oncoming traffic
A bouncer at a North Hollywood bar has been charged with murder after he punched a man who fell into the street and was fatally struck by a car, prosecutors said Monday.
Ernest Shawn Reyes, 34, continued his arraignment to Jan. 12. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years to life in prison in the death of Wilfredo Rodriguez, 47.
According to police, Reyes punched Rodriguez outside a bar in the 6300 block of Lankershim Boulevard right about closing time on Dec. 15.
As a result of the punch, prosecutors say, “the victim was knocked into the street and fatally struck by a vehicle.”
Police said they believed the victim was drunk when he got into a struggle with Reyes, but the reason for the confrontation was not clear.
When officers arrived, they arrested Reyes, who is being held on $2-million bail.
