The body of a hiker was found Tuesday in Yosemite National Park nearly a month after he was reported missing, officials said.

James Michael Millett Jr., 39, was found dead above Yosemite Valley, according to park officials. Details about his death and where he was found have not been released.

Millett was reported missing after he didn’t return to his vehicle from a day hike he had planned Aug. 11 to Upper Yosemite Fall, KFSN-TV in Fresno reported.

Park rangers found Millett’s vehicle on Tioga Road during the weekend and grew concerned about his whereabouts, park spokeswoman Ashley Mayer said.

A helicopter searched the area Monday. Ground crews sent into the area Tuesday found his body.

Park officials were investigating the hiker’s death Wednesday.

The Upper Yosemite Fall trail -- one of the park’s oldest -- is a steep, rocky climb with views of a massive waterfall and Half Dome.

Word of the discovery of Millett’s body comes weeks after two 14-year-old boys were killed when a tree limb fell on them while they were sleeping in their tent at Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley.
