Baby girl dies after being ejected from Porsche that fell 200 feet off mountain road
A 5-month-old girl was killed Sunday after she was thrown from a Porsche that lost control and fell 200 feet down an embankment near Palm Desert, officials said.
Armani Green of Rancho Mirage was not properly secured and was ejected from the Porsche, according to Officer Stephanie Hamilton of the California Highway Patrol in Indio. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP officers are still investigating the crash, which occurred at 8:08 a.m. on Highway 74 east of Vista Point.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the 2015 Porsche sports coupe lost control, struck the side of a mountain and collided with a metal guardrail, Hamilton said.
After hitting the guardrail, the Porsche traveled 200 feet down the embankment.
The 51-year-old driver and a 22-year-old female passenger suffered major injuries and were airlifted to an area hospital, she said.
It is unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
Hamilton told the Desert Sun that speed was likely a factor.
