Runoff for Antonovich county seat remains up in the air
The outcome of the primary election in the race to replace departing Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich remained unclear Friday, as the county registrar released its first updated vote tally.
Antonovich’s chief of staff, Kathryn Barger, remained in the top position by a healthy margin with 30% of the vote, assuring her a spot in November’s runoff.
But the second runoff spot remained in play, with entrepreneur Darrell Park holding a slim lead over state Sen. Bob Huff, each of whom received about 15% of the vote.
Only 280 votes separated the two in Friday’s tally, while 48,803 provisional and 42,031 late vote-by-mail ballots from the district remained to be counted.
Park was one of three Democrats among the eight candidates vying to replace Antonovich, a Republican. Barger and Huff are Republicans.
The next update will be released by the county registrar’s office Tuesday.
