Anaheim police shoot and kill man involved in earlier shooting

Anaheim police officers fatally shot a gunman Saturday after he shot and wounded another man and fired at a police helicopter, authorities said.

Officers responded to calls of shots fired in the 900 block of South Roberts about 4:30 p.m., said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

But the shooter quickly moved to another location in the 2000 block of West Cris Avenue, Wyatt said.

There, a police helicopter spotted the gunman standing over another man. He then shot at the helicopter, Wyatt said.

Officers arriving on the scene fired at the gunman after he refused orders to drop his weapon, Wyatt said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Wyatt said.

The officers involved in the shooting wore body cameras during the incident, and the video will be turned over to the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

The other man had a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to a hospital, where his condition was said to be stable. Authorities believe the two men were relatives, but had not yet confirmed their identities, Wyatt said.
