Woman, 23, dies as car veers off 710 Freeway and overturns
A woman was killed after a car veered off the northbound 710 Freeway in Lynwood and crashed, officials say.
A 23-year-old Cudahy woman was killed early Friday when she was ejected from a car that veered off the northbound 710 Freeway in Lynwood and crashed, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin. The driver of the car was identified as Jasmine Gamez, 22, of Compton. Gamez lost control of her Toyota Scion about 12:46 a.m. and the vehicle hit a raised triangular area that separates the northbound 710 from the transition road to the 105 Freeway, the CHP report said.
The vehicle overturned and the passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flung out, the CHP said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gamez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the CHP said..
The northbound 710 transition road to the 105 was closed for nearly four hours for the investigation, the CHP said .
