Crash on 60 Freeway leaves woman dead; DUI suspect arrested
A 28-year-old Commerce woman was killed early Sunday morning following a collision with a suspected drunk driver on the 60 Freeway near Montebello, authorities said.
Lidia Ortega, 28, was not “properly restrained” when the 2001 Acura Integra she was riding in was struck by a another vehicle on the eastbound freeway at about 1:35 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Upon collision, the Acura spun out of control, and Ortega and another passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
Ortega, who was identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, was not “properly restrained” in the vehicle, according to the CHP. She died at the scene, authorities said.
The Acura’s driver and second passenger were taken to a hospital, where they were being treated for their injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Authorities say the driver lost control of his car, struck the center divider, then veered to the right and hit the Acura. The driver was identified only as a 24-year-old Rosemead resident.
