55-hour road closure to shut down major streets in downtown L.A.

A 55-hour street closure in the heart of downtown Los Angeles this weekend is sure to bring some major headaches for drivers.

Starting Friday night, 1st and Alameda streets will be closed as crews conduct preparatory work for the construction of the Regional Connector Tunnel and work on the relocation of Metro Gold Line track and utilities.

The 1st Street closure will extend from Central Avenue to Vignes Street; the Alameda Street closure will extend from Temple Street to 3rd Street.

The closures will start at 9 p.m. Friday and end at 4 a.m. Monday.

Residents, business owners and emergency workers will be granted access at the intersections of Temple and Alameda streets, 1st and Vignes streets, 1st and Hewitt streets and 2nd and Alameda streets.

Another 55-hour closure is expected on Feb. 6 at 1st and Alameda streets, when crews plan to install concrete barriers and reconfigure traffic lanes.
