One person killed, another critically injured in hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles

One person was killed and another critically injured in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning in Leimert Park, officials said.

The collision occurred at 3:36 a.m. at Arlington Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to police.

One person was extricated from a vehicle and rushed to a hospital, and the other occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The unidentified driver who was killed worked for a ride-sharing company, police said.

The driver and an occupant of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot and have not been located, LAPD spokeswoman Liliana Preciado said.

The driver who fled was traveling north on Arlington Avenue before striking the other vehicle, which was heading east on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Preciado said.

The investigation is ongoing, Preciado said. The names of the victims have not been released.
