Earthquake: 3.5 quake strikes near Joshua Tree

A shallow magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported Tuesday morning 37 miles from Joshua Tree, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 2:21 a.m. PST at a depth of 0.6 miles.

Another quake, with a magnitude of 3.0, was reported in the same area at 6:34 a.m.

According to the USGS, the epicenter of the original quake was 39 miles from Twentynine Palms, 40 miles from Yucca Valley and 45 miles from Big Bear City.

In the last 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
