Asiana Airlines crash: Passengers taken to hospitals, SFO closed

San Francisco International Airport was closed after a Boeing 777 operated by Asiana Airlines crashed while landing on Saturday.

It’s unknown when the airport will reopen.

Photos taken by a passenger on the plane shows people on the runway with smoke coming from the aircraft.

In a brief phone interview, a passenger from the flight who didn’t want to give his name told the Los Angeles Times that most of the passengers on the flight were unharmed.

“I just want their families to know,” he said. “Most of the people seem OK and we’re just letting the paramedics do their job.”

It was unknown how many people were on board.

San Francisco Fire Department officials told KTVU-TV that injured passengers were taken to hospitals. They had no immediate word of fatalities but emphasized that rescue operations were still underway.

Photos showed that the tail of the plane broke off on landing.

Video showed black smoke coming from the aircraft and fire officials on the scene.
