Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Hawthorne, Nev.
A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Wednesday evening 18 miles from Hawthorne, Nev., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 11:27 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 7.5 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 83 miles from Gardnerville Ranchos, Nev., 94 miles from Carson City, Nev., 96 miles from South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and 97 miles from Fernley, Nev.
In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
