South Los Angeles boy shoots himself while playing with gun
A South Los Angeles boy was stable Friday evening after shooting himself in the hand and thigh, authorities said.
The boy, whose age was not released, was playing with a gun when the incident occurred, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Ed Luna.
Deputies responded to the area near 123 Street and Denker Avenue after receiving a call about 6:20 p.m.
The child shot himself in the left hand. The bullet went through his hand into his left thigh, Luna said. He was taken to a hospital.
KABC-TV Channel 7 reported that the boy’s father was taken into custody for suspicion of negligent storage of a firearm.
Luna said the investigation was ongoing and he could not confirm any details regarding the father.
