Obituaries
There are two types of 'obituaries' which the paper publishes.
One is an article written by an LA Times staff writer about the death ofan individual who is considered newsworthy. These obituaries can be found by searching the Archives on our website (this will retrieve citations for obituaries back to 1990).
The other type of obituary is a Death Notice or small ad placed by thefamily or a funeral home. These are not included in our electronicarchives and are not indexed. Thus, in trying to locate these notices, ithelps to have a good idea of the date of death.
Our research service can search for these. The cost is $160 an hour withA $40 minimum. You can call them at (800)788-8804, Monday - Friday, 8 - 5.International residents may call (213)237-6999 or fax (213)237-2586 oremail. You may also email your request to [email protected].
If you have access to a library which subscribes to the microfilmedition of the paper, you can do this search yourself. It is simply a matter of checking the index in each issue for the page with death notices and then going to that page and looking for the name.
