Campanile plans closing party on Oct. 31
Los Angeles institution Campanile plans to shut its doors with a big send-off on Halloween. After 23 years, co-founder and chef Mark Peel will prepare Campanile’s last supper. It will be a “Black and White” party -- and it’s all-you-can-eat-and-drink.
The building that houses the storied restaurant will be taken over by the end of the year by restaurateur Bill Chait and chef Walter Manzke, who plan to open Republique in the spring. Campanile’s Peel had said he would remain open until the end of November but has decided to close this month.
Regular service at Campanile will continue through lunch on Oct. 31. At dinner, from 5:30 p.m. to midnight, for $89 a person (a reference to the year Campanile opened -- 1989), the restaurant will offer an all-you-can-eat-and-drink blow-out, with passed appetizers, food stations, a jazz quartet and black and white masks. Kids 12 and under are free. Call for reservations.
