Chef Mark Estee opens Campo Mammoth at the ski resort
Hey, ho. A few days before Christmas, chef Mark Estee of Campo Reno opened a sister restaurant in the Village at Mammoth called -- ta dum -- Campo Mammoth. With the restaurant’s commitment to organic and seasonal ingredients and a menu built to order for ski buffs and their families, it could be a big step up for the Mammoth dining scene.
A chef from Italy? No big deal for those of us who live and eat in Los Angeles, but for ski country, it’s notable. That means the menu can offer handmade pasta and Neapolitan style pizza. No worries. Skiing means you’ve already shaved off the calories and can eat up guilt-free.
Other menu items include fritto misto, kale salad with poached egg, salumi and cheese platters, burgers, seafood and a daily pork plate. Sounds good coming from this experienced chef who was co-owner of Moody’s Bistro, Bar & Beats in Truckee, Calif., for a decade and has partnered with Levy Restaurants, which owns Spiaggia in Chicago, for this new project. Just in time for this last snowfall.
Campo Mammoth, the Village at Mammoth, 6201 Minaret Road, Mammoth; (760) 934-0669. Lunch, apres ski and dinner.
