Jenn Harris explores The Church Key’s new happy hour.

Name of restaurant: The Church Key

The happy hour: Every Monday through Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Drink specials are broken into three groups, including Bar 101 cocktails ($6) served by a Pan Am girl with a drink cart, and including a blood orange margarita, raspberry mojito and a Caipirihna; Rat Pack cocktails ($8), classic cocktails with a French 75, Old Fashioned, Sazerac and more; and the daily punch bowl ($14 for two or $25 for four). The food specials range from $2 to $11 and include a taste of chef Steven Fretz’s most popular dishes, including the chickpea fries ($4), smoked pork ribs ($5) and the fried green tomato slider ($4).

Best bang for your buck: Fretz’s version of a happy meal ($11). It’s served on a wooden handled tray and includes a fried green tomato slider, a beef slider with pimento cheese, chickpea fries with a tomato and harissa aioli and an ube milkshake spiked with rum. The burgers are both wrapped in the kind of foil wrappers you’d find at a fast food joint.

What are you drinking? The punch bowl. Beverage director Devon Espinosa has created a punch bowl with fresh passion fruit, rum and bubbly. He tops it with edible flowers.

Who’s at the next table? Young, well-dressed couples, groups of fast-talking girls and a couple celebrities having an early dinner.

Uh-oh: Street parking is near impossible, and valet is $7.

Service: The bartenders are happy to make recommendations and the Pan Am girls are very friendly.

Info: The Church Key, 8730 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, (424) 249-3700, thechurchkeyla.com.
