Brent Bolthouse’s breezy beachside hideaway, The Bungalow, has closed temporarily while it sorts out a minor issue with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The bar is located on the grounds of the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, and it turns out the hotel’s alcohol license needs to be updated to include The Bungalow.

In some ways, the timing is perfect, say representatives for the spot. The Bungalow recently turned 1-year-old and is in need of a few upgrades. Expanding the women’s restrooms is at the top of the list.

The Bungalow has been Bolthouse’s most sophisticated project to date -- a little slice of sunny Baja in Santa Monica with carefully curated music and tasty SoCal food. Bolthouse has been careful to not brand the place as a club, but rather as a relaxed house party.

Below is the statement issued by The Bungalow about it’s temporary shutdown:

This week we were notified that the hotel’s state-issued ABC license to sell alcoholic beverages needed to be amended to include our extremely successful Bungalow, located on the hotel grounds, about 50’ from the hotel entrance. While the paperwork is completed for this amendment, we are taking the opportunity to perform some needed upgrades and repairs. In particular, we are expanding our women’s restrooms and performing other cosmetic work that became necessary because of the large patronage the Bungalow receives. We are working at breakneck speed to get the paperwork and the construction completed and we decided that the work could be completed under an expedited schedule if we temporarily closed the Bungalow.
