Oprah Winfrey chai teas headed to Starbucks
Oprah Winfrey has her own magazine and television network, and now, the former queen of daytime TV is headed to Starbucks. Winfrey announced a collaboration with the coffee giant to make and sell an Oprah line of Teavana teas at the company’s annual shareholders meeting in Seattle on Wednesday.
“Whoa Starbucks, and Teavana!” Winfrey yelled in that signature I’m-so-excited-I’m-screaming voice, as she took the stage with Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz at the meeting.
She developed a line of Teavana Oprah Chai Tea with Teavana teologist Naoko Tsunoda. Her teas feature the flavors of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and cloves.
“I love tea,” Winfrey said. “My daily tea ritual is a vital part of my morning. Savory and spicy chai, with its deep flavor, has long been a favorite of mine.”
Starbucks will make a donation for each Oprah product sold to the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation to benefit educational opportunities for youth.
The teas will be sold as lattes or in loose-leaf tea formats at Starbucks and Teavana stores nationwide and in Canada. Information on pricing and availability will be announced in the coming weeks.
