VIDEO: SodaStream’s banned, uncensored Super Bowl commercial with Scarlett Johansson

Super Bowl commercials mean your product will be seen by millions of people during the big game. But for the second year in a row, SodaStream, makers of the at-home soda maker machines, has had its commercial rejected.

This year’s commercial starring Scarlett Johansson may seem a little provocative. It features the actress in a robe, making soda with the machine. She then strips off her robe to reveal a skin-tight dress. Sexy, but nothing compared to other commercials airing during the show.

Then come the last few seconds of the commercial, in which Johansson says: “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi.”

Pepsi is sponsoring the halftime show and Fox asked SodaStream to remove that last line.

“They’re afraid of Coke and Pepsi,” SodaStream Chief Executive Daniel Birnbaum told USA Today. “This is the kind of stuff that happens in China. I’m disappointed as an American.”

Fox Sports has declined to comment.

Birnbaum, who was unable to get his money back for the airtime, took the last line out of the commercial, and the edited version will air during the game. We’ve reached out to SodaStream for comment.

Meanwhile, SodaStream is making the soda equivalent of lemonade from lemons -- it has started a hashtag: #sorrycokeandpepsi and is promoting the uncensored version, which can be seen in the video above.

Last year, the company’s planned Super Bowl ad was banned for featuring a Pepsi delivery truck and a Coke delivery truck, and directly addressing how many bottles would be saved by using SodaStream.
