Republique bakery is open; Church & State toy drive; DIY gift workshop
Republique, the new restaurant in the old Campanile space from Walter and Margarita Manzke, has opened its bakery for coffee and pastries. Starting at 8 a.m. daily, until mid- to late afternoon, fresh pastries including croissants, brownies, muffins and brioche, along with espresso drinks, American coffees, tea lattes and herbal infusions will be available. 624 S. Church & State, the Arts District bistro helmed by Tony Esnault, is collecting new, unwrapped toys and books through Dec. 17 for its toy drive in partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department. The Institute of Domestic Technology is offering a holiday food-crafting workshop at its Greystone Mansion location in Beverly Hills on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop includes four one-hour sessions plus lunch and beverages. The sessions cover making: the chocolate hazelnut spread Domestella (the institute’s version of Nutella); dukkah, the Egyptian seasoning of ground and toasted nuts and spices, for dipping pieces of olive-oil-soaked fresh bread; marinated olives; and pancake mix in a jar.
