Plan Check is throwing a Gudetama party, and Hello Kitty isn’t invited

Hello Kitty gets all the glory. The not-exactly-a-cat Sanrio character has captured hearts around the world, but what about Gudetama?

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar is showing some love to the new guy with a special Gudetama menu. He is an egg after all; a lazy, unmotivated egg, but an egg nonetheless.

Starting Friday, a Gudetama-inspired menu will be available at all three Plan Check Kitchen + Bar locations (Fairfax, Sawtelle and downtown). The multi-course menu is $39 and includes a crispy blanket egg, soy sauce egg and spicy pork belly sausage and miso aioli to start. The main course includes Gudetama sliders made with sunny fried quail eggs, cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup leather and hot sauce. And dessert consists of chocolate custard pudding, an apricot thumbprint cookie and an orange-ginger egg cream soda.

And don't worry, the sliders feature an illustration of Gudetama, and so does the pudding. The meal also includes a limited-edition Gudetama T-shirt.

The special menu is available through Nov. 29. Last year, the restaurant partnered with Sanrio for a Hello Kitty-inspired menu as part of the character's 40th anniversary. This year, Gudetama wins.
