Crab Cake 2013: A crab boil by the Voltaggios, Duff Goldman, Ben Feldman and Joel Madden
What’s Crab Cake 2013? Ask Michael Voltaggio, who puts it this way: “This Sunday a few Maryland natives will give a lot of people crabs while raising some money for the L.A. Mission.”
In other words, it’s an old-fashioned end-of-summer crab boil to raise money for the organization that helps men, women and children on skid row, hosted by actor Ben Feldman, musician/producer Joel Madden and chefs Michael and Bryan Voltaggio and Duff Goldman.
“I’ve been having Maryland crab boils out here for years, and my L.A. friends go crazy for them,” says Feldman. “I got together with some Maryland friends and we decided to go big.... A couple of amazing chefs and a rock star who happen to be homesick Marylanders.”
Tickets are $100 per person, available online at crabcake2013open.eventbrite.com. The Hollywood location will be disclosed upon purchase. Net proceeds will benefit the L.A. Mission.
True to a classic Maryland crab boil, there will be bushels of crabs, crab cakes, peel ‘n’ eat shrimp, hush puppies, corn on the cob, potato salad, classic Smith Island cake and live music, much of which will be prepared by the Voltaggio brothers, with dessert by Goldman. The beer’s from Maryland microbrewer Flying Dog and a Stoli Bloody Mary bar. Valet parking will be available.
