Starbucks pick-up turns into viral Instagram video

It’s not uncommon for someone to pick up another person in line at Starbucks. If we’re being honest, who hasn’t felt especially generous or swoon-able while anticipating a warm pumpkin spice latte?

A man at a Starbucks in Los Angeles hit on a woman and asked for her number. She gave it to him. The man sent her a video later that day and her friend Ben Roc decided to post it on his Instagram.

“A friend met this guy at a coffee shop,” wrote Roc on Insagram. “He got her number and sent her this. Nice work bud.”

The video has received over 1,000 likes and has prompted a #starbucksdrakehands hashtag and a slew of copycats.

So what’s so special about this video? Well you have to watch it to fully understand it’s hilarity - and slight creepiness - but we’ll break it down for you. For one, the guy has Drake’s new song “Hold On, We’re Going Home” playing in the background. Not the super high-pitched part that’s way too fun to sing along to (“going home!”), but the part where he says, “I’ve got my eye on you.”

The guy just stares at the camera with his best “Zoolander” face, then after a couple seconds, smiles at himself. He then covers his face with a hand like all of a sudden he realizes what he’s doing is silly. His look says “yeah, I’m shy, but don’t forget, I’m cute too.”

Copycat videos sprung up instantly and include babies with their hands on their faces, a guy wearing a horse mask and even some pets.

We’re seeing a reality T.V. show, a biography and a possible line of cashmere gloves at J.C. Penney in his near future. And to think, it all started at a Starbucks.
