Food events: Artisanal L.A., Dodgers Home Opener at Philippe’s, LGBT food fest, Thai Restaurant Week
Need some quality food material for Snapchat? Here are details on two events happening this weekend, plus Thai Restaurant week and a Dodgers Home Opener celebration at Philippe the Original next week.
Artisanal L.A.
The downtown food crafters and chef showcase returns to the Reef downtown this Saturday and Sunday with DIY sessions, workshops, cooking classes, a pop-up urban garden, mobile shopping, a cafe, local art gallery, local indie musicians and food vendors. Some of the highlights include “sushi 101” with Gourmandise; a bone broth workshop with Brothee and DIY pressed flowers with Makers Mess. There are plenty of kid-friendly activities planned, as well as a quiet space for parents in the family lounge. Show hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the second-floor Magic Box at the Reef. Presale tickets are available online for $10 as well as discounted weekend passes for $15. Simply DiVine
The Los Angeles LGBT Center is holding its 11th annual food and wine event this Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at McCadden Place in Hollywood. Participating restaurants include Gracias Madre, Hudson House, Madcapra, Sycamore Kitchen, Terrine, Taste on Melrose, Viviane, Connie and Ted’s and Ayara Thai. There will also be a VIP club with Giada De Laurentiis. General admission tickets are $125 and include unlimited samplings of food and drinks. Club VIP tickets, with access to a courtyard and a tasting with special wines, bites and celebrity chefs, in addition to admission to the main event, are $500. All proceeds support the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s programs and services which provide meals to LGBT low-income seniors and homeless youth. 125 N. McCadden Pl., Los Angeles, www.simplydivinela.org.
Dodgers Home Opener at Philippe the Original
The downtown L.A. restaurant known for its French dip sandwiches and hot mustard is hosting some pre-game festivities Tuesday before the Dodgers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium. The Bud Light Girls and Angel City Brewery will be at the restaurant, with a beer station and two beers on tap to go with those sandwiches. The restaurant, which is located within walking distance to Union Station (where you can catch the Dodger Stadium Express bus), also plans on raffling off a pair of Dodger tickets during the festivities. 1001 N. Thai Restaurant Week
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is celebrating the Thai New Year Songkran Festival with a Thai Restaurant Week in Los Angeles and New York, April 11 to 17. Participating Los Angeles restaurants include Night + Market, Jitlada and Ayara Thai. During the weeklong celebration, Nooror Somany Steppe from the Blue Elephant Cooking School in Phuket will offer cooking classes at the New School of Cooking in L.A. www.bookthailandnow.com
