Dining with an Instagram-worthy view at Alain Ducasse’s Rivea at the Delano Las Vegas

Depending on where you are in life, a trip to Las Vegas can mean very different things. It’s your 21st birthday? Party time, bottle service and Gatorade. Celebrating an anniversary? Tom Ford, a suite and a steady supply of Champagne. A nice, quiet dinner in Vegas with ample time for reflection usually isn’t on the agenda.

But if that’s what you’re in the mood for the next time you’re in Sin City, there’s the new Rivea at the Delano Las Vegas, as well as the adjacent Skyfall Lounge.

The restaurant by lauded French chef Alain Ducasse, whose restaurants have nearly 20 Michelin stars combined, and the lounge, with drinks by Los Angeles-based LLC Proprietors, are located on the 64th floor of the Delano Las Vegas. Each venue offers outdoor seating with spectacular views of the Strip.

While you sip a martini and munch on delicate triangles of crispy socca (chickpea pancakes), you can contemplate life’s many mysteries, and whether or not the rooms at the Luxor below indeed have slanted ceilings.

Of course there are parties to be had at each venue (the lounge and restaurant offer spaces for large parties and pre-club gatherings), but on a recent Tuesday evening, drinks and dinner were peaceful, the mushroom risotto was showered in shaved white truffle and the view of the Strip rivaled that from a tall building in any other city around the world.

Ducasse’s menu, prepared by the restaurant’s executive chef, Bruno Riou, includes a selection of small plates to start (cured ham tigelle; marinated seabream; baby vegetables stuffed with a Nicoise salad mix; a couple of steaks; entrees (roasted duck breast with bigarade sauce; striped bass with a minestrone reduction) and limoncello baba (bread soaked in limoncello) for dessert.

If you somehow missed the “wave wall” on your way in, get a good look on the way out. It’s a wall of glass orbs that hang from the ceiling, designed by Parisian duo Patrick Jouin and Sankit Manku.

And if you’re in the mood for bottle service after dinner, Skyfall has something called an Old Fashioned service. Customers can order any bottle of aged spirit with an Old Fashioned cocktail setup; custom mixers for different spirits (fresh lime, mint syrup and seltzer with a bottle of gin); and unique spirits such as Chareau Aloe liqueur.

Before your elevator ride down 64 floors to the hotel lobby, your only worry should be worrying whether that selfie you took on the lounge patio is good enough for Instagram.

Rivea is open for dinner daily from 6 p.m. Skyfall is open nightly from 5 p.m.
