Strand Brewing Co. begins bottling beer

Opened in 2010, Strand Brewing was an early entry into the L.A. craft beer scene, and soon you won’t need to visit its Torrance taproom to get some 24th Street Pale Ale or Atticus IPA to enjoy at home. After three years of growing pains the small team has begun bottling its beers for distribution throughout Los Angeles.

The South Bay brewery will package all the beers in its catalog on a rotating basis, and the first varieties to see the inside of the bottle will be 24th Street and Atticus IPA, the flagship Beach House Amber Ale, and Second Sleep Imperial Stout. The brewery is using 500-milliliter bottles -- just a hair over 16 ounces -- which founder Richard Marcello says he likes better than the more-common 22-ounce “bombers” because it is enough beer to share with another beer fan but not so much that you can’t tackle the bottle all by yourself.

True to the brewery’s slogan of “Our way from grain to glass,” the small staff at Strand will be hand-bottling all of the beer in-house, and the bottles will be distributed to Whole Foods stores and other craft beer-focused retailers. The first shipments should hit shelves in a few weeks, and prices will be $4 to $9 depending on the style.

The official launch day for Strand’s bottled beers is Saturday, and you can visit the Torrance taproom to get some of the first bottles off the line and try a few special brews that will be on-draught -- including its popular White Sands Double IPA.
