Nobu for high rollers: 24-hour sushi service hits Vegas

Has it come to this? Nobu Matsuhisa has a new hotel with 24-hour sushi service. Sushi fanciers can hole up in Vegas at the new Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace and “get into bed with Nobu for breakfast, lunch and dinner” per the breathless prose of a news release.

Nobu is such a global brand now. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Nobu Matsuhisa the sushi chef who turned the genre on end started out in L.A. via Peru at Matsuhisa on La Cienega Boulevard. Now like Cher and Madonna and Beyoncé, he goes by one just one name: Nobu.

Back to the hotel. Picture me, languishing in one of 181 “stylish rooms and suites” designed by David Rockwell, and ordering up blueberry and yuzu soba pancakes or green tea waffles with strawberries and yuzu whipped cream for breakfast. Actually, that sounds kind of good.

Or counting the stacks of money I’ve won at the casino while nibbling on the “High Roller” bento box, smugly considering my new status as a baby whale. Or calling the 24-hour room service to order a light meal of sashimi tacos or the Nobu Club sandwich (miso-grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato) before hitting the blackjack tables. Um, make that the pork belly tonkatsu sandwich instead. I think I’m going to need some real sustenance to keep my focus on the game.
