Haven’s Provisions Market, with 30 taps, to open in Old Towne Orange
Orange County craft beer lovers’ anguish is over. Haven Collective is opening in the same space as the much-missed Bruery Provisions in Old Towne Orange.
The Bruery Provisions had sold bottled beer, cheeses and poured a selection of the Bruery’s popular brews; there was even a special line of beers made specifically for sale at the retail outpost. But in December, Patrick Rue -- founder of The Bruery -- announced that the space would be closed so that the brewery could focus on its core business of making incredible and creative beers.
Thankfully, the closure of the space was short-lived and the Haven Collective stepped in to add the market to its portfolio. Best known for the two Haven locations -- a gastropub just across the street from Provisions in Orange and a brewpub in Pasadena -- the group also runs Taco Asylum in Costa Mesa, and it jumped at the chance to take over the Bruery’s retail space, announcing the plans in January.
Provisions Market will be a bottle shop and tap room with 30 rotating craft beer taps. It will also feature wines by the glass and bottle, a cheese case with 60 varieties, a sandwich counter serving “European-style” open-face sandwiches on OC Baking Company breads, a selection of take-and-cook meats and meals, artisan chocolates, and the second outpost for Orange County-favorite coffee roasters Portola Coffee Labs.
The goal is “to bring a little of everything that we love into this space,” says Haven founder and executive chef Greg Daniels.
The space features an attractive collage of subway tile, reclaimed wood, and a white-washed tin ceiling with lots of retail shelving, ample seating, and an attractive patio around back. Beers on tap will rotate, and the market plans to feature Haven beers being made in Pasadena by the new brewmaster. Brian Thorson was brewing at Drakes Brewery in the Bay Area before moving to Southern California to take the reins at Haven’s brewpub. Thorson has been busy retooling the brewhouse in Pasadena, and his beers are just beginning to pour at Haven locations.
The team hopes to have Provisions Market open to the public by June 1, and the Portola Coffee bar will begin serving a few weeks later.
