Good Eggs to bring its ‘farm-to-fridge’ online storefront to L.A.

In 2011, Rob Spiro, Alon Salant and their team of techies launched a San Francisco-based start-up called Good Eggs. What was initially a software system for farmers to sell directly to customers turned into an online storefront that features picked- and prepared-to-order goods from numerous local farmers and food-makers.

With a mission to “grow and sustain local food systems” and a board of advisors that includes Alice Waters and Bi-Rite founder Sam Mogannam, Good Eggs is venturing farther afield. The company recently launched in Brooklyn and has plans to set up virtual-shop in Los Angeles this summer.

Angelenos will be able to retrieve orders from free pickup spots around the city or opt for home delivery. Offerings are to include local fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, breads, sweets, baby food, kitchen staples such as granola, coffee, honey, eggs and yogurt, and non-edible products such as flowers and soaps.
