Machneyuda chefs at Jar, Fullerton Arboretum spring dinner, more

Jar hosts guest chefs: Israeli chefs Assaf Granit and Uri Navon of Machneyuda in Jerusalem will be paying chef Suzanne Tracht’s restaurant Jar a visit April 13 for a one-night-only dinner collaboration. In honor of Israel’s 65th Independence Day, Granit, Navon and Tracht will prepare a four-course dinner comprised of dishes such as sea fish tartare; shikshukit, cooked minced beef and lamb in a Mediterranean spice mixture with tahini and yogurt; calamari with dates, honey, pomegranate concentrate, porcini mushrooms, harissa, cherry tomatoes, confit of onion and garlic with tahigort and burnt aubergine paste; and basbousa, a wet semolina cake with tahini ice cream and fresh fruit. The event costs $125 per person and includes dinner and wine pairings. Proceeds will benefit Ultimate Peace in the Middle East Sports Camp, a program in Israel that unites Jewish and Arab youth. Fullerton Arboretum spring dinner: The Fullerton Arboretum will host a spring farm dinner fundraiser April 12 at 6 p.m. The multi-course dinner will be prepared by chefs Jonathan Duffy Davis and Jonathan Dye and showcase food grown in the Arboretum’s own soil, and be paired with wine and beer. Memories of the Casbah: On April 13, Kitty Morse, a Moroccan cuisine food expert born in Casablanca, will be discussing her recent book Mint Tea and Minarets: A Banquet of Moroccan Memories at the Downtown Central Library. Food and Farm Film Fest: For Angelenos willing and able to make the drive (or flight) north, the Roxie Theater in San Francisco will host the inaugural Food and Farm Film Fest, in partnership with Bi-Rite Market, from March 29 to 31. New and classic films, shorts and features, from local and international filmmakers will be screened throughout the weekend. The program’s schedule includes “Trattoria,” “Ratatouille,” “Betting the Farm,” “The Last Shepherd,” “Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers and “Food, Justice and Art” shorts. Festival passes to all six screenings are now sold out, but tickets for individual screenings are still available and can be purchased online.
