Alex’s Lemonade cookout for cancer research coming in September

It’s easy to get inundated by all of the charity food events held during the summer, but here’s one you definitely want to put on your calendar. For the fourth year, Suzanne Goin, Caroline Styne, David Lentz and friends will be putting on the L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade Culinary Cookout, benefiting childhood cancer research. This year’s event will be held the afternoon of Sept. 28 at Culver Studios in Culver City.

Alex’s Lemonade is the charity started by 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was suffering from cancer and opened a front-yard lemonade stand in 2000 to raise money to help cure all kids suffering with the disease. Her effort had turned into a national foundation that had raised more than $1 million by the time of her death in 2004.

Goin is the chef and Styne the co-owner at Lucques, AOC, Tavern and the various Larders. Lentz is chef at the Hungry Cat restaurants in Hollywood, Santa Monica and Santa Barbara. Among the cooks scheduled to join them will be April Bloomfield, Gabrielle Hamilton, Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook, Jonathan Waxman, Giada de Laurentis, Adam Perry Lang, Chris Bianco, Nancy Oakes, Michael Tusk and Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger.

There’s always a big entertainment component at Alex’s, and this year’s event includes the stars of NBC’s “Parenthood.”

Basic tickets are $175, and there’s a $1,200 ticket that includes a behind-the-scenes tour and a private chef’s dinner the night before. Tickets for all levels are available for purchase online at lucques.com, thehungrycat.com or the L.A. Loves Alex’s website. All proceeds will benefit the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

The event almost always sells out -- more than 1,200 people attended last year’s.
