New York Fashion Week spring - summer 2013: Kate Spade
NEW YORK — The collection: Kate Spade, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2013. Designed by creative director Deborah Lloyd.
The inspiration: “Things we love,” Lloyd said, including Ormond Gigli’s photograph, “Girls in Windows,” pops of color, picnics in the park and bold blooms, “because I would have been a florist if I hadn’t become a designer.”

The look: Sweet like sugar kisses, with confetti tweed jackets and miniskirts, match stick jeans, floral lace coats, cardigans with jewel details and shirts with scalloped collars. The color palette was good enough to eat, with candy pink, mint green, orange whip and lemon souffle, mixed with floral, gingham and Mondrian-esque graphics. New shoes included a pointy-toed loafer worn with sheer, lacy ankle socks, and a mint green pointed stiletto with silver cap toes and bows. There were plastic wicker totes in Technicolor brights, clutches dotted with bows or shaped like cat’s eye glasses, and one particularly clever picnic basket-as-purse.
The scene: Low-key. Guests beat the heat at the presentation by sipping Mimosas. Lauren Conrad stopped in to check out the goods.
The verdict: Girlish fun, especially the gingham manicures by Deborah Lippmann.
