Sophia Amoruso’s #Girlboss brand to host conference in L.A.
Perhaps it was only a matter of time. Sophia Amoruso’s #Girlboss brand is set to expand its reach with the first Girlboss Rally next year in Los Angeles. The one-day networking event and conference is scheduled for March 4 and is aimed at those interested in listening to speakers talk on subjects such as marketing, branding, career transitions, health and wellness and sexuality. There are also the more creative aspects of the event, including an on-site photographer to help attendees with their LinkedIn profile pictures, beauty treatments, gift bags, pop-up shops and an open door into the exclusive Girlboss Facebook group.
“When I wrote [the book] “#Girlboss” nearly three years ago, I had no idea how necessary it would be,” wrote Amoruso on her Instagram post announcing the conference. “The world has moved backward in 2016, putting even more pressure on us to collaborate, co-conspire and create a vision of the future together. That is exactly what we are doing one tiny step at a time, at @Girlboss.”
The post, from last week, was followed up the next day with a more ambiguous announcement from Amoruso: “It’s official. I’m a masochist. Ding ding, round two!” The post came with a picture of what appears to be Amoruso’s #Girlboss business cards but it’s less clear what precisely round two and the next phase for Amoruso entails. Nasty Gal, the digital fashion brand she built from scratch beginning with an eBay business selling vintage, filed for bankruptcy protection last month and is currently winding its way through the restructuring process.
Pricing for the conference appears about in line with similar offerings, with early bird tickets on sale for $350. A $600 VIP ticket boasts an invitation to the speaker cocktail hour along with special parking and access to the VIP lounge during the conference. A portion of the ticket proceeds — 10 percent — will go to the Girlboss Foundation.
The speaker roster includes a number of entrepreneurs and names in the digital and finance spaces including Amoruso, actress Britt Robertson who plays Amoruso on the upcoming Netflix series about the entrepreneur, Glossier founder and ceo Emily Weiss, comedian Whitney Cummings, Bumble founder and ceo Whitney Wolfe, Nasty Gal ceo Sheree Waterson, True&Co. cofounder and ceo Michelle Lam, L’Oréal vice president of digital innovation and entrepreneurship Rachel Weiss, Story founder Rachel Shechtman and BBG Ventures president and managing partner Susan Lyne.
