Coachella 2014: Julianne Hough keeps cool at Harper’s Bazaar party
Julianne Hough, Katy Perry, Jesse Metcafe, Katherine McPhee, Louis Roe and others braved the 90-plus-degree desert heat Friday afternoon for the Harper’s Bazaar picnic lunch at the Parker Palm Springs during the 2014 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Hough hosted the party along with Harper’s Bazaar fashion market and accessories director Nicole Fritton and digital director Joyann King. Stylist Anita Patrickson also made an appearance.
The stars mingled under the shade of a canopy of leaves and sipped grapefruit spritzers at the private lunch, tucked behind the Gene Autry pool at the hotel. After the last course was served, guests made their way toward the water and shopped the pop-up shop that Bazaar set up poolside. Others stopped by the Urban Decay kiosk to have forest green eye liner and deep blue shadow applied.
We sat down with Hough, who wore a white lace, off-the-shoulder top and high-waisted shorts, and Rebecca Minkoff by Shane Baum Crosby sunglasses, to talk Coachella style and who she’s looking forward to seeing at the festival.
What are you wearing today?
The top and shorts are vintage, but the Chloe wedges [are] from my closet from like two years ago. This [pointing to her small over-the-shoulder bag] is from a little flea market. This is Sydney Evan [she said as she clasped her gold necklace]. I’ve literally had this for 2½ years and never taken it off. This is my jewelry every day, so I haven’t put any specific jewelry on for this weekend.
Do you have any Coachella essentials?
I think that honestly because my hair is short now, accessories for hair are so fun. So I’ve got a cute head scarf. I’ve been wearing scarves recently ... little hats, berets and stuff that’s really fun .... Sunglasses and hats are like my go-to. High-waisted jean shorts are pretty good too. I always bring a lip balm. Papaw is my favorite ... it’s an Australian brand. And I love my little water sprays and gum. I hydrate a lot so that’s good.
Are you coveting anything for spring?
This spring I am going to be in pajamas, workout clothes and dance gear. I have nothing that I’m really coveting because I’m going to be in that all spring and all summer.
How would you describe your personal style?
I tend to go with something masculine and feminine and wear it in the same thing. Not so much today, but usually i love bow ties and little collars and stuff like that, but with a floral print. I like the masculine/feminine thing.
Who are you excited to see at the festival?
I’m really excited to see Lorde, and Pharrell, and Muse. Oh my gosh, there are some really good London bands playing on Sunday.
