Johnny Depp to receive award from makeup artists, hairstylists
Johnny Depp has been selected as the first recipient of the Distinguished Artisan Award from the Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, the Guardian reports. The group plans to bestow its annual awards Feb. 15 at Paramount Studios.
Depp, “probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters,” guild President Susan Cabral-Ebert said in a statement.
Indeed. Depp has used makeup and hair to great effect throughout his career. Memorable characters include Capt. Jack Sparrow, Tonto, Willy Wonka, the Mad Hatter, Dillinger, Barnabus Collins, Sweeney Todd. And who could forget Edward Scissorshands?
What more could we want from an actor whose surname is reminiscent of an iconic hair gel -- even if Johnny’s name has an extra “p.”
