Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costumes blasted as ‘disgusting,’ ‘transphobic’

Last year there were Ebola costumes. This year there's Caitlyn Jenner.

News that several costume companies, including Spirit Halloween and Anytime Costumes, plan to sell a unisex Caitlyn Jenner costume for this year's Halloween festivities blazed across social media, as commenters expressed outrage over what one called "transmisogyny."

A petition on change.org asks Spirit -- the largest Halloween retailer in the U.S. -- not to produce a Catilyn costume. By midday Tuesday 3,425 supporters had signed it.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Spirit spokeswoman Trisha Lombardo defended the costume idea. "Caitlyn Jenner has proven to be the most important real-life superhero of the year," she said. "Spirit Halloween is proud to carry the costume that celebrates her."

We attempted to reach both Spirit and Anytime Costumes -- as well as Jenner -- for comment and will update this post if they respond.
