‘The Jinx’ finale hits series-high ratings after Robert Durst arrest

With the dramatic arrest of its subject just hours before, HBO’s “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst” locked up series-high viewers for Sunday’s finale.

The 8 p.m. airing of the finale - which featured the multimillionaire Durst’s seeming confession to the multiple murders outlined in the documentary series - drew 802,000 total viewers, according to Nielsen.

A rebroadcast later in the evening gathered an additional 250,000, for a grand total of just over 1 million for the night.

Those tallies are modest by overall TV standards -- HBO estimates that its fantasy epic “Game of Thrones” has a total audience of 13.6 million. But for a documentary, “The Jinx” scored big.

The previous most-watched episode of “The Jinx” was the premiere, which drew just over 750,000.

News events spiked interest in the show. On Saturday, Durst -- son of a New York real estate mogul -- was arrested in New Orleans in connection with the 2000 slaying in Benedict Canyon of Susan Berman, a writer and confidante.

Meanwhile, Andrew Jarecki, director of “The Jinx,” has put his media appearances on ice, citing the legal tumult that now surrounds Durst and the show.
