‘The X Factor’ canceled: Demi Lovato fans dance on its grave

After three seasons on Fox, the American version of “The X Factor” has been canceled, the network announced Friday. And with that cancellation, “X Factor” creator Simon Cowell is headed back to his native England to be a judge on “The X Factor UK.”

Normally, the end of any show brings out a fair share of fans who suddenly cherish what they will no longer have. But the end of Cowell’s own version of “American Idol” has certainly brought out the haters. Especially those whose fan allegiance was to former judge Demi Lovato.

Lovato joined the show in its second season but left after the end of its third season, in December. She told reporters upon her departure that the new year would be dedicated to working on her music.

But Lovato’s departure appears to have been the final straw for many in the show’s dwindling audience. Forget the fact that the harsh and opinionated Cowell was supposed to be the show’s main draw. Without the young pop star, many couldn’t see a reason to continue to root for the show’s success.

“NOW THAT DEMI ISN’T RETURNING TO X FACTOR IT GOT CANCELLED. WELL LOVATICS WOULDN’T HAVE WATCHED ANYMORE ANYWAYS,” @delena92forever wrote.

“X Factor got cancelled. Thank god. That show would be NOTHING without Demi tbh..” wrote another fan.

“The irony of demi shading the voice all the time, and the x factor gets canceled. HA,” wrote “Stars Dance.”

“I’m pretty happy X Factor is cancelled cause I won’t feel so about Demi being there when One Direction come to perform,” wrote “EverythingDiall.”

The show apparently did some good during its relatively short life on Fox, introducing some fans to singing acts Fifth Harmony and Alex & Sierra.

The singing competition show debuted in the fall of 2011, but its ratings were never on par with Fox’s other singing competition show, “American Idol,” and after the first season, they continued to sink. The third season premiere drew 6.45 million viewers. Meanwhile, the 13th season premiere of “American Idol” in January drew 15.19 million viewers.
