‘The Voice’ recap: And then there were 10
You know how last season the coaches on “The Voice” were bellyaching about having to make their own team eliminations late in the competition? Well, this season they’re griping about their teams’ fates being entirely in the hands of the voters. They needn’t worry. The voters did a fine job Tuesday night, sending home two singers who, though talented, for whatever reason failed to connect: 16-year-old Mohawk girl Michaela Paige of Team Blake and pop-singing Brooklyn waitress Adriana Louise from Team Christina.
Paige and Louise both took the news with dignity, shared teary sentiments about how fab their coaches were and got nice pats on the back from those coaches. Blake Shelton predicted that we’d soon see Paige’s “big old Mohawk” walking across the stage at the Grammys. And Christina Aguilera promised we’d hear much more from Louise in the future. It was all very sweet.
That means the top 10 (in the order we learned about them) are …
Bryan Keith (Team Adam), Sylvia Yacoub (Team Christina), Nicholas David (Team CeeLo), Dez Duron (Team Christina), Trevin Hunte (Team CeeLo), Cassadee Pope (Team Blake), Terry McDermott (Team Blake), Amanda Brown (Team Adam), Cody Belew (Team CeeLo) and Melanie Martinez (Team Adam).
It could just have easily been Martinez and Belew – the other two contestants saved by their coaches, rather than the voters, last week – going home, but it wasn’t. Chalk up a win (or two) for two-toned hair, big bows, Peter Pan collars and Belew’s trademark audience-pleasing “bam-bam.”
In other news, Aguilera debuted her new single, “Make the World Move,” backed by CeeLo Green and clad in a dangerously strapless, cutaway, leg-showing gown, a pale pink curly wig and a cartoony crown.
Duron and Keith more than held their own onstage with country singer Jason Aldean. And Team CeeLo slipped on the earth-tone polyester and poofy hair and performed the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” from “Saturday Night Fever” –- after which, apparently swept up in the excitement of it all, Green flashed the camera his belly.
Team Blake, too, performed – “Life Is a Highway.” Alas, it would be Paige’s last song on “The Voice” before she hit the road.
So long, Michaela and Adriana. Congrats to the top 10. And on we go.
Do you think the right two contestants went home?
