The love story of Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla and husband Chris Pérez could soon be coming to a TV near you. Endemol Shine North America and Major TV have optioned the television rights to Pérez’s biography, “To Selena, With Love.”

Selena was a rising star in Latin music before she was murdered by the founder of her fan club in 1995. Released posthumously, Selena’s final album, “Dreaming of You,” sold more than 5 million copies, and the singer’s life inspired a 1997 biopic, “Selena,” starring Jennifer Lopez.

“Selena is one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, and her legacy continues to live on long after her tragic death,” Cris Abrego, Endemol Shine North America CEO and Endemol Shine Americas chairman, said in a statement.

While “To Selena, With Love,” first published in 2012, tells the tale of Pérez and Selena’s romance from his point of view, the television adaptation will cast a broader net to look at the world around them. The series will also be adapted for both English and Spanish TV.

“I spent several years keeping the memories of my late wife bottled up inside,” said Pérez in a statement. “‘To Selena, With Love’ allowed me to finally embrace my experience and understand the void it could fill in the hearts of so many others.”
