Discovery Channel is heading back to the Old West for its next nonfiction series, “The West.”

The cable network announced the series on Tuesday with a planned debut sometime in 2014. Robert Redford and Laura Michalchyshyn’s Sundance Productions will produce the series alongside Stephen David Entertainment.

The series will chronicle the 40-year period of American history from the end of the Civil War to just after the turn of the 20th century, when the American frontier was a wild and sometimes violent place.
