MTV cuts Miley Cyrus joint stunt at EMAs, parents group applauds
The Parents Television Council is thanking MTV for saving viewers from Miley Cyrus and her marijuana paraphernalia.
The outrage-courting pop star appeared over the weekend at the European Music Awards in Amsterdam, where she opened her handbag onstage and lighted up a hand-rolled cigarette that looked a lot like a joint. At another point, she seemed to brandish a bong.
But MTV spread weed-killer all over its U.S. broadcast of the event, making sure viewers didn’t see any sign of the former “Hannah Montana” star seemingly taking a big toke.

On Monday, the PTC, which has made MTV a frequent target of its campaign to rid TV of family-unfriendly programming, praised the network for its editing decision.
“We applaud MTV for taking responsible actions to eliminate the drug use from its U.S. broadcast, and we urge them to make that a uniform policy for all its programming,” PTC president Tim Winter wrote in a statement.
What do you think of MTV’s decision? Was the network right to cut out Miley’s actions, or did it make a dopey decision?
