Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys join ‘The Voice’ as coaches for Season 11

For the first time, NBC’s “The Voice” will have a pair of female coaches: Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys.

Cyrus and Keys will take their places in the show’s signature red chairs for the upcoming 11th season. They will join Adam Levine and Blake Shelton on the musical competition program in September, replacing current coaches Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams.

“The musical expertise and energy these two incredibly talented women will bring to the show is remarkable,” Paul Telegdy, president of NBC Entertainment’s alternative and late-night programming, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled that they’ll be joining Adam and Blake in what we know will be a magical 11th season.”

Both women have a connection to “The Voice” — Cyrus as an advisor on the current season, which started Feb. 29, and Keys as a mentor on Season 7 in 2014.

Both also bring considerable know-how to the job. A Disney Channel alumna whose career and persona are ever-evolving, Cyrus has released five No. 1 albums and hosted “Saturday Night Live” and the VMAs. Keys, who has won 15 Grammys and sold 35 million albums, is working on her sixth studio album, to be released this year.

“The Voice” is a key program for NBC. The current season has averaged 15.4-million viewers in Live-plus-7 ratings, which measure live and DVR viewings up to seven days later.
